Time for an update!
Hey, there! The last time I updated my News page was more than a month ago! Wow, time flies! So much happened! Let’s see…. I was on the East Coast with BAS for 3 weeks. I got to spend some quality time with Chiquita on 12 Stone Farm in GA and we had a two day band camp by the creek. Great house concert in Fayatteville, AR! Great show at Cafe Lena in upstate NY…Then came the monster 55 hour drive from Boston to the Anacortes Festival, through “Forever Montana”…
Came home on Aug 6th. Played a couple of shows with the delightfully charming Two Man Gentlemen Band from NYC opening for BAS. Played with Gabby Louise at Bongo’s in Salida and at the historic Hotel Colorado in Glenwood Springs. Oh, and Afro Samba! I met Mike Brick through my good friend flute virtuoso Chris Lawhead when he invited me to sit in with their jam band at Dulcinea’s. Mike and I got along pretty good and he invited me to play a gig at the St Julien with his group Afro Samba. It turned out to be a super fun gig. Mike uses alot of world music(I hate this expression) elements in his rock/funk based compositions. There is a lot of room for improvisation. I got to play with this amzing drummer, Greg Canchola who promised to show me more latin and Afro-cuban stuff!
What else? Oh BAS is also going to play at Four Corners Festival for the first time! It’s an amazing festival with a fantastic lineup that includes Nickel Creek, Darell Scott and The Wilders etc…Exciting!!
About my solo CD, it’s getting close….The Chinese tunes turn out really well. I will be mixing the middle eastern stuff on Sep 4 with the help of the amazing Jesse Manno. He is my one-man band on Dance of the Black Sea Pirates, playing 5 out of the 7 instruments that are featured in the tune!! I am looking forward to starting the Kailin Yong Band with Jesse on the roster! I hope to post a couple of samples on the site in couple of weeks so those of you who are interested could get a sneak preview. I also hope to do an extensive online liner note on this site breaking down the history of each tune etc. I should also have my new and improved bio page up. And hopefully new pictures. And…..
